Wolslager Foundation Grant- This generous $30,000 grant allows our program to continue through 2012 the services our seniors have come to rely on. This grant was awarded specifically to fund the Emergency Meals and Weekend/Frozen Meals programs. The grant will also allow Meals For The Elderly to continue providing nutrition services despite the precarious economy.

Art & Eva Camunez Tucker Foundation- The trustees of the Tucker Foundation awarded us our request of $29,000 for a commercial dish washer, a vacuum sealer, and a reverse osmosis system for our meal preparation here at Meals For The Elderly.  These items will go a long way in helping our kitchen staff and volunteers get food ready and clean up after meal preparation in a healthy way!

We Are Meals On Wheels Grant- Our national affiliate, Meals On Wheels Association of America, awarded our office a grant for our marketing campaign for the national We Are Meals On Wheels campaign.  These funds can be used for whatever we need for our program. We received this grant because we ran a social media and radio ad campaign encourgaging volunteerism and getting involved with our senior meal delivery program.

$1,000 Level

Darden Foundation- The Darden Foundation donated towards our emergency meals, & friday lunch sacks for our seniors. We are so blessed to be able to go beyond one hot meal to really provide the steady nutrition our fragile seniors need. Thanks to Darden Foundation and Red Lobster in San Angelo for making us aware of the opportunity!

Banfield Charitable Trust- Our pet program received some very helpful funding from Banfield Charitable Trust. The pet program is vital to what we do because it ensurse our seniors are cared for and caring for themselves. Knowing they will have supplementary pet food eases the brden of pet ownership and ensures seniors save their hot meals for their own nutritional needs.  This money will be used to keep the program running strong and ensure we have the help we need by providing gas cards for our drivers. If you would like to give to our pet program specifically, please note that in your donation form in the comments section.

March for Meals Grant- Last newsletter, we celebrated the success of our March for Meals Campaign this past March.  Meals On Wheels Association of  America (MOWAA) shared our view- that this year’s campaign deserved a tribute- has notified us that we have been given a reward for our efforts. We received a $1,250 grant for our  work here in San Angelo. This generous gift will  help us send out over 500 meals  and is only possible thanks to  all the hard work of our dedicated board, staff, volunteers, donors and community.  This award is  the second largest amount awarded, and only a handful of meal programs across the country received this honor.

Under $1,000 Level

Feinstein Grant 2012- As we discussed in our spring newsletter, we applied for a matching grant from the Feinstein Foundation for our efforts during the months of March and April this  year.  Our portion of the $1 million available to all charities was $460. We look forward to doubling that amount in 2013. Watch out for matching grants, as they help us quickly raise necessary funding we need.

Conference Scholarship Awarded- Becca Edens, our Marketing & Event Director, received a 2020 Walmart Foundation Scholarship for the 2012 MOWAA Annual Conference in National Harbor, Maryland. Her award will provide $800 in support for travel and event registration. As Becca concludes her first year, this good news is perfectly timed. Charlyn Ocker and Becca Edens will represent our program in Maryland August 20-24th.
