The Volunteer Experience

As a volunteer, you are the eyes, ears, and heartbeats of our program.  We could not operate even one day without your help.  Please use this page to share stories and thoughts about your volunteer experience with other volunteers and those who may be considering volunteering.  Please be mindful of our clients' privacy in your comments, and use no names or first names only.

So tell us - what's your story?

On 9/11, I was at Meals For The Elderly helping stuff envelopes to send out soliciting donations or something like that and the lady in the office brought us a TV so we could see what was happening.  We just kept stuffing those envelopes and did not miss a beat!  When my nieces and mephews were here during the summer (as I babysat them) I took them with me to deliver meals and they enjoyed it so much and had lots of questions about this.  Blessings to you all.

This has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.  I have been delivering meals for about a year now and have gotten very attached to the folks on my route.  Seeing their smiling faces when I come to the door proves to me how important this volunteer opportunity is. Often times, we may be the only visitor our clients get and even just a 2-5 minute chat can brighten their day.  I appreciate all the hard work that the ladies at Meals for the Elderly do.  They are all wonderful!!!  Thank you for this amazing opportunity to reach out to our community.
