For Mayor Tom Thompson, giving back is about the ties that bind a community. “Our community depends on so many organizations, groups, and individual people. We are all dependent upon each other, and we must support each other to make sure our community stays successful,” he explains.
Being named a 2025 Community Champion is both an honor and a humbling reminder of shared responsibility. “This organization has thousands of supporters and volunteers far and wide. To be selected humbles me and reminds me of the dedication we all must give to keep our community thriving,” Tom says.
His community involvement spans decades. He spent ten years with the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo Association, working alongside nonprofits and witnessing the generosity of our community firsthand. He also served eight years on City Council, gaining insight into the behind-the-scenes work it takes to run a functional city.
Tom draws inspiration from the Lord’s Prayer, emphasizing priorities and focus, and turns to Psalm 91 in challenging times. He also lives by a simple truth: the best answers to nearly all questions about San Angelo can be found right in San Angelo.
Outside of public service, Tom enjoys the big screen. His favorite classic film is Phar-Lap, and this year he’s been enjoying F1 racing.
