2026 Community Champion: Alma Velez

Alma Velez believes that each of us is here for a purpose, and for her, that purpose includes serving others. Through both her professional work and her volunteer efforts, Alma has spent years quietly supporting causes that make a difference for families across the Concho Valley.

Alma serves as Executive Assistant and Traffic Director at Foster Communications, where she plays an important role behind the scenes helping keep local media running smoothly. Her heart for service extends far beyond the workplace, as she consistently looks for opportunities to lend a hand and connect people with resources that can help them during difficult times.

For Alma, giving back is simply part of who she is. Whether it is volunteering, supporting a cause, or helping someone find the resources they need, she believes it is important to do what we can for others whenever the opportunity arises.

Being named a Meals For The Elderly Community Champion is something Alma describes as a true honor. She says the ability to give to others is a gift she believes was placed in her life by a higher power, and she is grateful for every opportunity to use that gift to help someone else.

Over the years, Alma has supported many organizations in the community including Children’s Miracle Network, United Way, Habitat for Humanity, Project Janice, and other local efforts that focus on caring for families and individuals in need.

Her faith is an important part of the way she approaches service. A scripture that guides her life comes from John 13:34:
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”

Outside of her work and volunteer efforts, Alma’s greatest joy is spending time with her family. She is a proud Christian, wife, mother, and grandmother known lovingly as “Mootie” to her three grandchildren. She enjoys being a big sports fan and especially loves gathering around the table to share meals and quality time with the people she loves most.

As part of the Meals For The Elderly Community Champions program, Alma will participate in a ride along with one of our volunteer delivery routes during March for Meals. This experience allows champions to see firsthand the impact of a daily meal delivery and the meaningful connections volunteers build with the seniors they serve.

Meals For The Elderly is grateful for Alma’s heart for service and for her willingness to serve as an ambassador for our mission of neighbors helping neighbors.
