Community Champions is a special initiative from Meals For The Elderly that highlights individuals in our community who embody the spirit of service and compassion for homebound seniors. These champions use their voice, time, and influence to help raise awareness about the needs of older adults and to remind our recipients that they are valued, seen, and supported.
Throughout March, our Community Champions help share our mission, connect with our team, and inspire others to get involved. By telling their stories and engaging with the community, they help shine a light on the importance of ensuring that no senior is hungry, isolated, or forgotten.
This year, we are honored to recognize Carol Santry as our Honorary Community Champion. Carol faithfully volunteered with Meals For The Elderly for more than 35 years. She first began delivering meals as a young girl alongside her parents, and service quickly became a natural part of her life. Even after losing her sight, Carol continued delivering meals with the help of a partner, never letting that stop her from caring for the seniors she loved.
Carol often shared her faith with recipients, sometimes bringing Communion or small joys like cascarones to brighten their day. For her family, volunteering was never a chore. As her daughter Camille shared, it simply felt like what their family did. Carol’s joyful heart, deep compassion, and lifelong dedication touched countless lives, and her legacy of service continues to inspire all of us at Meals For The Elderly.
